“MUSE” CLARINET TRIO of the OFGC

15€Born in Teror (Gran Canaria), where she began her clarinet studies in the academy of the Banda Municipal de Música with Eusebio Bravo, continuing them in the Academy of the OFGC, with Miguel A. Rodríguez and Radovan Cavallin, the Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Las Palmas, with Antonio Carmona, the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Canarias, with Radovan Cavallin, the Centro Superior de Música del País Vasco – Musikene, with José Luis Estellés, Antony Pay, Carlos Gil, César Martín, Carmelo Molina and Henri Bok, and at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe (Germany), with W. Meyer, Frank Nebl and Leonie Gerlach. She holds a degree in Music and has several Masters in Performance, Chamber Music and Music Therapy, as well as training in Alexander Technique and various courses in pedagogy and music education. During her studies, Laura received scholarships from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture and the Mapfre Guanarteme Foundation. She was clarinet soloist with the Joven Orquesta de Gran Canaria, the Joven Orquesta de Canarias, the Joven Orquesta Ciudad de Oviedo and the Orquestra Sinfónica da UFRJ (Brazil). He has collaborated with orchestras such as the Orquesta Sinfónica de Euskadi, the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, the Oviedo Filarmonía, the Philharmonie der Nationen, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife and the Kurpfälzisches Kammerorchester, among others. He is a member of the Banda Sinfónica Municipal de Música de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria until 2021, when he joins the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria, with which he has been playing regularly since 2002. She has performed concerts in Europe, the United States and Latin America. Laura Sánchez has been a founding member of the Ensemble Canaires, the Trio Caliesa and Con Fuoco Quinttet. She also collaborates regularly with the International Bach Festival and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Las Palmas, as well as with other musical institutions in the Canary Islands. Committed to her homeland and the dissemination of culture, she actively participates in the creation of Canarian music, premiering and recording works by contemporary composers such as Laura Vega, Daniel Roca, Ernesto Mateo, Lothar Siemens and Nino Díaz. Laura Sánchez develops an intense work as a teacher, having taught in several schools in Gran Canaria. Since 2009 she has been teaching clarinet at the Escuela Municipal de Música Candidito de Teror, where she has been a member of the board for several years, and is director of the clarinet ensemble “ClariKids”. She also teaches at the Gran Canaria International Clarinet Festival and at the summer course of the Asociación Músico-Educativa Inegale. She is currently clarinet soloist, requinto and bass clarinet of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria and teacher of the EMM Candidito Teror.
RADOVAN CAVALLIN
He was born in Zagreb, Croatia, in 1969. At the age of 13 he entered the Academy of Music at the University of Zagreb, becoming the youngest student ever admitted. There he graduated four years later with honours.
In 1986 he was chosen among 76 candidates to enter the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris, where he was awarded the following prizes: 1st Prize in Chamber Music unanimously in the class of Christian Lardé in 1988 and 1st Prize in Clarinet unanimously in the class of Guy Deplus in 1989.
During his studies in Paris he was awarded four scholarships: 1986, Ivo Pogorelich Scholarship; 1987, Nadia and Lily Boulanger Scholarship; and 1988 and 1989, French Government Scholarships.
He has won prizes in the following competitions: 1st National Clarinet Prize in Yugoslavia on 4 occasions (1981, 1983, 1985, and 1986), 1st Prize in the International Clarinet Competition in Ancona (Italy) in 1984, 2nd Prize in the International Clarinet Competition “Dos Hermanas”, in Seville (Spain) in 1995. He has performed more than 400 concerts as soloist in Italy, France, Germany, Belgium, United States, United Kingdom, Japan, China, Portugal, Austria, Poland, Hungary, Spain, Czechoslovakia, Colombia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Kosovo, Serbia and Montenegro.

He was also a soloist in the Symphonicity show with Sting and his band and the OFGC. He has performed as a soloist at the festivals of Ferrara (Italy), Dubrovnik (Croatia), Bad Hersfeld (Germany), Granada (Spain), Festival de Música de Canarias (Spain), La Orotava (Tenerife), Brussels (Belgium), Lisbon (Portugal) and Ibagué (Colombia), St Pauler Kultursommer (Austria).
He has made recordings for labels such as Yugoton, Croatia Records, Fonart Aquarius Records, Cantus, FND, Arte Nova BMG, Maguelone, AgrupArte Producciones, Cristal Records, Summit Records and ASV. with works and concertos by Mozart, Françaix, Copland,Danzi,Strauss,Czerny, Jenner,Duvernoy,Lindpaitner, Reinecke, Cherny, Jenner, Beethoven,Shaw, Šaban, Paar, Kunc, Palacios, Montsalvatge, Detoni, Parac, Jelaska, Bobić, Skender , Prohaska Adamič, Grgin Kovačević , Diaz and Bjelinski.
He is one of the founders of the Canarian chamber ensembles Cuarteto Atlántida, Trío Spohr, Cuarteto Reinecke, Ensemble Isola, La Palma Chamber Orchestra, Canarian Clarinet Camerata and Alisios Camerata. He has given more than 60 courses and master classes in Spain, USA, Cyprus, China, Japan, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, France, Poland, Croatia, Slovenia and Serbia. He has also been a member of several international clarinet competitions. He is Artistic Director of the Gran Canaria International Clarinet Festival, (Spain), VIMM-Virovitica International Clarinet Meeting (Croatia) and La Palma Chamber Orchestra (Spain).
Since 1989 he has been Professor of the Academy and Principal Clarinet Soloist of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria with which he has performed under the baton of M. Rostropovich, M. Yurovsky, G. Rozhdéstvenski, L. Slatkin, J.C. Casadesus, Norman del Mar, Gianandrea Noseda, Trevor Pinnock, Gunter Herbig, Leopold Hager, Gabriel Chmura, Antoni Wit, Adrian Leaper, Karel Mark Chichon, Karlos Kalmar, among many others.
Between 2002 and 2010 he was Professor of Clarinet at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Canarias (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria). Radovan Cavallin is a Selmer, Silverstein and Backun artist and performs with Selmer “Muse” clarinet, Backun “Arabesque” mouthpiece, and Silverstein clamp. and the Silverstein “Titanium” clamp.
SAMUEL HERNÁNDEZ
He was born in La Laguna in 1985 and began his studies at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Tenerife, later at the age of 17 he entered the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Canarias being the youngest student. He was awarded a scholarship to extend his Postgraduate and Master studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with Maximiliano Martin and Heather Nicoll, finishing them with Distinction and Honours, winning important prizes such as the RSAMD Trust, Governor’s soloist woodwind Competition and the Mary D. Adams Prize. He has collaborated with prestigious orchestras in Europe and Asia such as the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony, Northern Sinfonia, Britten Pears Orchestra, Scottish Opera Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Asia-Pacific Union Orchestra, The India Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, Macao Orchestra (China), Orquesta Sinfónica Verum, Orquesta Clásica Santa Cecilia, Banda Sinfónica Municipal de Madrid and performing in the most important concert halls and festivals around the world such as Musikverien (Vienna), Royal Albert Hall (London), Shanghai Concert Hall (China), Performing art Center of Beijing (China) and the BBC Proms (London). He is currently clarinettist of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria, founding member of the (JOCAN) Joven Orquesta de Canarias, of the duo “CañayTecla” and Principal Conductor of the Patronato Banda de Música de Valle de Guerra.
